The Peace Dam

This is the full view of the Peace Dam, Dongchon-ri, Hwacheon-gun, Gangwon Province. It will be completed on October 19, 18 years and eight months after breaking ground in February 1987. The dam was constructed in two phases out of concerns that the Geumgangsan Dam (also known as the Imnam Dam), which was completed by North Korea by 2003, might collapse. The Peace Dam’s poundage is 26.3 billion tons, which is 10 million tons more than that of the Geumgangsan Dam.
