Management consultant Omae Kenichi, 56, recently said in an interview with Japan`s economic weekly Toyokeizaiwa that the corporate environment is changing too quickly in an era of e-Business so outside advise is unnecessary if the company fails to solve the problem by themselves.
He said the secret of management reform in an era of e-Business is securing creative manpower, noting that there is a limit in consultant`s advise. He explained that the consultant would do it by himself if there is any great business idea or business model, instead of offering consulting service to others.
In today`s infancy of e-Business, what is required for top managers is to find talented people who are anxious to do something special. In other words, they need to have a batting eye.
Omae commented that all executives who were successful in the world of e-Business like Cisco Systems chairman John Chamber, Yahoo chairman Jerry Yang and chairman Jeff Bezos of Amazon.com have developed talented people with a batting eye, regardless of their nationality, race or gender.
He stressed that top manager`s role is to create an atmosphere to attract talented people and let them do everything. He said that the criteria of selecting talented people is not their education but if they have a sense to grip an opportunity. "With knowledge, it is easy to mimic high-tech companies. But, without a genuine wisdom, there is no real success."
Omae stressed that the law of dot-com is an economy where only one person who play the role of a pioneer survives.
