TOEFL has once again become a target of fury as the 5000 testees discovered that the question in the retest on July 8 contained questions which were utilized in the previous year. The situation has become worsened in the light of the fact that the retest has been arranged because the last month¡¯s test was cancelled due to the fault set of questions and answers.
With allegation by certain number of test applicants that there had been a leakage of the questions for the test and number of well-known academies teaching TOEFL had distributed them to their students. AS such, the U.S. Educational Testing Service is looking into a legal response to the allegation.
The Korean-American Educational Commission which oversees the TOEFL in Korea has affirmed on the 13th that the ETS is currently investigating whether the named academies had indeed distributed the questions which were to be on the 8th.
Horace Underwood, the head of the commission made it known that ETS has found that the questions which were on the TOEFL given on the 8th were the same set which were on the test given last year April. However, as the question set in the April test had not yet been released to the public, it lies within the regulation of the ETS to reuse the question set in case of retesting.
He further added that as ETS holds the copyright and ownership of the set of questions on the TOEFL test given last April and that should evidence be found of academies obtaining the question sets through illegal means, ETS would start legal proceedings.
Many testees of the July 8th test protested that those who had attended the particular academies were on a unfair advantageous position than the rest.
