At a debate forum, a common sense question `What kind of nation is the U.S.?` was asked and the answer to this question was "U.S. is a public company listed on the global securities market".

America is a country comprised of various races and ethnic groups and is still open to all people. Strikingly, America resembles a listed company on the stock market. Until now, the descendents of European immigrants are holding the largest portion of the shareholdings of U.S. Inc. and also dominate the management of the nation.

However, in the last half century, the equity participation of Asian races especially the Chinese, Japanese and Koreans has increased considerably. Recently, the information industry has emerged as America`s main industry and this has spurred the advancement of Indians. Latin American people are superior to Asians numerically but as shareholders of U.S. Inc., they are wholly lacking influence.

The gate to America is especially wide for skilled individuals in specialized fields such as arts, science and technical areas. Many highly motivated and exemplary young individuals from all corners of the globe have gone over to the America to fulfill their dreams and many of them have in fact reached their goals.

Such adventurous people, who crossed the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, to fulfill their dreams

and ideas have been the driving force behind making the U.S. a global power. America is a multi-racial and multi-cultural nation. Many cultures around the world are coexisting in an environment where characteristics of each culture are highlighted and the respect is given to other cultures.

Similar to the desired model for corporate management based on a global management structure standard, the participation by a diverse range of races in the U.S. Inc. seems quite equitable and in turn the greater the shareholding the higher the scope of participation in the management.

The procuring of shareholdings of U.S. Inc. by Koreans is experiencing a steady growth but the shareholding volume still does not permit a direct participation in the management of U.S. Inc. In pure numbers, the Jewish segment is not large but their influence over the management of U.S. Inc. is significant. They hold the reins in the core industries such as the media and finance. Japan has also reached a position where they participate in the board of directors through its focused penetration into the industrial sector and capital market. There are many Japanese-Americans now in the Congress and there has even been a Japanese-origin minister.

There is no need for us to see the U.S. as our enemy, or even the subject to detest or fear. We should see America as a land of opportunity with its door wide open to us and we can at anytime increase our shareholdings. The Korean peninsula is much to small for our 70 million people (North Korea included) to reach our aspirations.

The Korean race has to expand its activity base to the world. America is the probably the only nation where all races are open to come in and as its name says, U.S. is a public company open to everyone. For the last half century, Korea and the U.S. have maintained a blood alliance and economically speaking, the relationship is inseparable. With this foundation, we should steadfastly secure our position in U.S. Inc. by steadily increasing our shareholdings. If we can enhance our position in the management of U.S. Inc., America will become a land of opportunity in the future.
