Starting next year, children of business executives returning from an extended residence abroad could enroll in the foreign schools in Korea and the students of the foreign school will also be able to transfer to other domestic schools as their academic work would be honored.

However, in the case of much disputed enrollment of resident Korean students in the Foreigners` School and the establishment of new schools for foreigners, the ban will remain in force.

The Education Ministry amended the policy on the 28th as many had pointed out that the enrollment policy and the license for the management of a school for foreigners are too restrictive and that the academic work at the school for foreigners are not acknowledged by the domestic school boards. According to the Ministry, the amended policy could be implemented as early as next year.

The current enrollment policy at the foreign school which were established for the purpose of providing education for compatriots of the founder allows for the enrollment of the non-Koreans, the children of inter-racial marriages, the non-Korean citizens with Korean heritage, those with permanent residency in a nation other than Korea, and the children of business executives who have been abroad for over five years.

The ministry has decided to lower the barrier for children of business executives by lowering the "5 years or more" to "3 years or more."
