With the interruption of the special session of the National Assembly that failed to pass the amendment to the Government Organization Law, many expect President Kim Dae-Jung to push through the expected cabinet reshuffle this weekend or early next week.
"Although President Kim originally had planned to wait for the passage of the Government Organization Law, because the National Assembly special session has once again been interrupted with the next planned session on the 20, the president has decided to carry through the cabinet makeover either this weekend or early next week," a source in the upper echelon of the ruling party said.
The official also clarified speculations concerning the targets of the reshuffle.
"Contrary to the speculation of many concerning the appointment of former minister Kim Jong-In for the post of finance-economic minister, who also will act as the deputy prime minister, while it is certain that he will be a part of the economic team, whether he will except the minister post is not certain," he said.
If he does not accept the post of minister, many observers expect former Minister Kim Jong-In to be appointed to the post of chairman of the Financial Supervisory Commission or as chief economic advisor.
"There may be some surprises when the names are announced," another source in the ruling party aid. "However, those who will retain posts are director of the National Intelligence Service Lim Dong-Won, Minister of Culture and Tourism Park Jie-Won, and presidential secretary Han Kwang-Ok.
