The Korea National Red Cross finalized the 100 candidates on the 5th for the inter-Korean reunion in Pyongyang. The 100 candidates were chosen from a list of 138 people, which North Korea sent on the 26th, that were confirmed to have family alive in the North.
A Red Cross spokesperson revealed that while the North is still trying to find the surviving relatives of 62 other candidates, there was little hope at this point. As for the selection of the 100 final candidates from the total 138, the spokesperson stated that they were chosen according to the criteria established by the Red Cross committee for candidate selection.
The spokesperson further commented that each of the 100 finalists would receive a notice of their status and a waiting list would be created for other separated relatives to visit Pyongyang should any of the finalists be unable to make the trip. Those who were not selected for the August 15th reunion will be on the top of the list for future reunions when a visitation facility is established.
