Shin Kook-Hwan, the new minister of commerce, industry and energy, said that he would implement a balanced policy between the old economy and the information-communications industries.
At an inaugural press meeting, Shin said that he would try to make the MOCIE support restructuring, while leading changes of the era.
"Previously, we focused on tackling the foreign exchange crisis, but we have to implement our policy with medium- and long-term views," he said.
He noted that structural reform in the object economy, which includes such industries as manufacturing, and the service industries are vital for ultimate success in restructuring. In this connection, Shin recommends reform in the domestic industrial structure, considering Southeast Asian industries, improvement in export and import conditions, and completion of restructuring of electric power industry as priority issues.
