New education minister appointed

President Kim Dae-Jung Thursday appointed Lee Don-Hee new education minister to succeed Song Ja who resigned this week on charges of ethical infractions. The new chief educational administrator served as chairman of the Presidential Advisory Commission for New Education Environment. Presidential spokesman Park Joon-Young said the replacement was named in recognition of his broad experience and acumen in educational policies and that he is credited with rational and harmonious character. He said the appointment is based on the favorable judgment of the person by President Kim as a figure with best qualifications for leading reform of the nation`s education and development of human resources.
