Americans in Korea warned of terrorism

The United States Department of State has instructed the U. S. Forces Korea and its Embassy in Seoul to take precautionary measures for the safety of personnel and facilities, upon receiving information that there could be terrorist acts against Americans in Korea by non-Korean organizations, it was learned September 3. In a warden notice, the U. S. State Department said that it had secured unconfirmed information that some "non-Korean organization" might commit terrorist acts against American people and their facilities in Korea and ordered the USFK and the embassy to tighten security measures. It also called upon staff members and dependents to take special alert. However, the department did not specify whether the terrorist group was of non-Koreans residing here or a foreign terrorist organization. Korea¡¯s Foreign Affairs-Trade Ministry officials explained that the U. S. measure is part of its routine affairs for the protection of its people and that there is no tangible signs for the occurrence of terrorism.
