The Public Security Department of the Prosecutor`s Office revealed that it has closed the cases of 87 of the 118 people for the alleged violations of campaign laws during the on April6 General Election, and that the investigations are ongoing for 31 representatives.
Of the 87 representatives whose cases have been closed, 41 belong to the opposition Grand National Party, 40 to the ruling Millennium Democratic Party and six to the United Liberal Democrats.
According to the prosecutor, among those whose cases are ongoing, 16, including Rep. Kim Hak-Song, belong to the GNP; 14, including Rep. Kim Taek-Kee, belong to the MDP; and one person, Jeong Jin-Suk, belongs to the ULD.
Aside from the 118 booked, 14 other new cases have been opened with four from the GNP, including Rep. Lah Oh-Yeon, and 10 from the MDP, including Rep. Kim Young-Bae.
Those facing legal proceedings comprise eight belonging to the GNP, including Rep. Jeong In-Bong, the majority, and five belonging to the MDP, including Rep. Chang Young-Shin, with one ULD member Chung Woo-Tak.
Those whose charges have been dropped consisted of four from the GNP, including Rep. Jeong Byung-Gook, four from the MDP, including Hong Jae-Hyong, and one from the ULD, Rep. Lee Jae-Sun.
Those who have been cleared of wrongdoing totaled 62, with 28 from the GNP, including Rep. Ahn Taik-Soo, 30 from the MDP, including Kang Hyun-Wook, and four from ULD, including Rep. Lee One-Ku.
