Rep. Hahn Hwa-Kap, a Supreme Council member of the ruling Millennium Democratic Party, warned on Wednesday that a new political force could emerge, if the current political deadlock continues.

In a caucus of the party lawmakers at the National Assembly, Rep. Hahn said, ¡°If the Grand National Party, ignoring the public opinion, continues to cripple the National Assembly operation, it will offer a cause itself for the possible emergence of a new political force.¡±

¡±This means the split of the GNP,¡± he said. His remark is expected to stir up a controversy in the political world.

Expressing his views on the crippled political situation during the caucus, Hahn said, ¡°GNP president Lee Hoi-Chang is making politics wrong, obsessed with a thought that `next regime is mine.¡¯¡± He also claimed that the longer the political situation is crippled, the more the GNP would aid the ¡®third force¡¯ to emerge, and this will eventually inflict damage to the GNP.

GNP spokesman Rep. Kwon Chul-Hyun said, ¡°The ruling party promised during the meeting of two leaders of the rival parties that there would be no artificial realignment of the political parties. But now it refers to the split of the opposition party against the political morality, completely destroying the politics of mutual survival.¡±
