UN High Commissioner for Refugees(UNHCR), Sadako Ogata, 73, of Japan, who is often referred to as the godmother of refugees, has been nominated for the fifth Seoul Peace Prize.

The review committee for the Seoul Peace Prize, chaired by Lee Chul-Seung, announced at the Korea Press center in Seoul on September 6 that the final meeting of the UNHCR committee selected high commissioner Ogata as the winner of the prize.

Lady Ogata was appointed as UNHCR in 1991 and since then has devoted her life to working for refugees in over 40 disputed areas, including Rwanda, Chechnya, and East Timor.
