President Kim hopes World Cup games be a turning point for Korea-Japan relations

President Kim Dae-jung in the yesterday afternoon on Semtember 13 received Shinichi Hakojima, publisher of Japan's Asahi Shimbun, at Chong Wa Dae, the presidential mansion. He told the visiting Japanese journalist that the Korea-Japan ties have improved more than ever before since the inauguration of the Kim Administration. Pointing out the opening-up of Korea to the inflow of Japanese culture is accelerating the growth of mutual understanding of late, he told Hakojima to help the media of the two countries work together to assure successful joint hosting of the World Cup Soccer Games in 1992 which is going to be a turning point for the better in the bilateral relations between Korea and Japan.

President Kim is scheduled to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Toshiro Mori in Japan on September 22. The Asahi president was called upon to exert greater efforts in the interest of ameliorating bilateral relationship and promoting peace and security in the Korean Peninsula.
