Members of the entourage accompanying the Korean Olympic Team in Sydney became victims of an attempted car jacking, but luckily they escaped without injury or loss of property.
According to the statement by the Korean Team headquarters in Sydney, three Koreans, including one of the members of the team entourage, Youn Jong-Koo, and a Korean-Australian volunteer Terry Lee, were attacked about 2:15 p.m. Korean Standard Time on Sept. 19 as they were returning in a van from a market near the Olympic Athletes Village by two would-be robbers suspected of having escaped from prison.
Fortunately for the victims, a patrolman happened upon the scene causing the two suspects to flee in the stolen, van which later was abandoned as they successfully fled on foot.
The three Koreans escaped injury, and Terry Lee, who is pregnant, was given a thorough examination at a hospital nearby but was found to be healthy.
The Sydney Olympic Organizing Committee has revealed that it would take full financial responsibility for the medical examination and repairs to the vehicle.
