Kim Min-Suk of Donga University set the Korean 50m freestyle record following his record-breaking 100m freestyle swim, but failed to reach the semifinals.
Kim posted 22.82 seconds in the 50m freestyle event held at the Olympic Park Aquating Center, beating the previous Korean record (22.99 seconds) he himself set at the Asian Championships held in April. Despite cutting the record by 0.17 seconds, his ranking of 17 was 0.02 seconds short of a place in the semifinals.
However, his 50.49 second record in the 100m freestyle gave him the highest ranking among Asian competitors at 24th, and in the 50m freestyle, he tied with current Asian Champion Jiang Chengji (China) at 17th, proving he is the top short distance swimmer in Asia.
