Korean women's handball team advanced to the final round of eight with four wins and no losses in the preliminaries of the Sydney Olympic Games. The Korean women, who earlier secured a ticket to the quarterfinals, took a 31-24 (14-16, 17-8) rout of Angola in their last preliminary match in Pool A at the Second Pavilion in the Sydney Olympic Park Monday, engineered by the brilliant performances of Kim Hyun-Ok, Huh Young-Sook and Lee Sang-Eun.
The Korean team took the first place in Pool A and will meet Brazil, which finished fourth in Pool B for a semifinal berth Sept. 28.
Korea fell behind in the middle of the second half, overpowered by Angola's powerful game, but snatched a chance to win through side penetration and middle-range shots, scoring successively.
At 20-20, Oh Sung-Ok opened Korea's scoring streak of nine points without allowing even a single goal to make it a comfortable 29-20 victory.
