The Cultural Properties Administration decided to upgrade treasure number 324, the Yeosu Jinnamkwan, a Chosun era building, to national treasure class on Tuesday.

Jinnamkwan was constructed in 1598 as a lodging place for the regional government office of Cholla Province and was reconstructed in 1718.

With 15 chambers on the front and 5 chambers on the side on a 240-pyong site, the building is the largest regional government office of its type in existence.

During the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592, Jinnamkwan was used as the headquarters of the Chosun naval forces.
