Runners from across the nation flocked to Kyungju on Sunday to join in the 2000 Donga Kyungju Open Marathon.

5,941 amateur marathoners participated in the run, with more than 15,000 people making up a human belt. After the starting gun was fired jointly by Dong-A Ilbo president Oh Myung, MDP lawmaker Hahn Hwa-Kap and Iljin Group chairman Huh Chin-Kyu at 11:00 a.m., runners started their arduous journey with Kyungju citizens cheering them on in the streets.

In the full course Masters segment, Shim Jae-Duk (2H 41m 1sec) and Chang Young-Shin (3H 34m 33sec) emerged victorious.

1998 Donga Amateur Marathon winner Kim Yi-Yong (Sangmoo, 2H 7m 49sec) and 2000 Donga Seoul International Marathon winner and a runner for the Korean team at the Sydney Olympics, Chung Nam-Kyeun (Korean National University of Physical Education , 2H 11m 25sec), ran the 5km race with amateur athletes.
