Prosecutors have decided to conduct an intensive clampdown on a newly-opened casino in Chongson, Kangwon Province, assuming that organized crime groups are likely to intervene in its operations and commit offenses such as robbery, theft, prostitution and drug trafficking in the area in line with its business boom.
The prosecution also decided to sternly deal with those who produce pornographic works through the manipulation of photographs of famous public entertainers and distribute them through the Internet.
The violent crime department of the Supreme Public Prosecutor¡¯s Office arranged these and other measures at a meeting on countermeasures for public security held Tuesday with officials from nine related government agencies, including the Education Ministry, the Presidential Commission on Youth Protection, the National Tax Service and the National Police Agency.
In case of the Chongson casino, the prosecution is considering a plan to organize a joint investigation team consisting of prosecutors and policemen, and the violent crime department of the Seoul District Prosecutor's Office will conduct the crackdown on the venue in cooperation with the Yongwol branch agency of the Chunchon District Prosecutor's Office.
They also plan to join forces with other related agencies and civic groups in organizing and operating a monitoring team for Internet pornography while campaigning for Internet users to actively notify the authorities of any cases they find.
