The talks on the revision of the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) started Nov. 29. This important negotiation cannot draw particular attention, as it is overshadowed by other incidents. The U.S. Forces Korea play a vital role on the Korean peninsula, but the U.S. servicemen have committed various crimes such as murders and assaults. The American forces triggered various incidents ranging from Maehyang-ri bombing to the release of toxic elements and polluted water contaminating the environment that are strictly regulated in their home country, thus raising suspicion how they are belittling our nation. Moreover, they have never extended a heartfelt apology to the Korean people. In order to address these problems, the people will have to pay more attention to the ongoing SOFA revision talks.
