Areas along Seoul Subway No. 6, an east-west route running north of the Han River, are expected to receive much more public interest beginning this week as the line will go into operation on Friday at noon. The total length of the new line is 27 kilometers and an additional 4 km will be added if a connection between Sangwolgok-dong and Bonghwa-san stations is opened. The line has 32 stations running in a U-shape alongside the Han River.
The opening of Subway Line No. 6 is expected to facilitate easier commuting for residents in western Seoul, who previously had to take both the bus and subway to visit southern Seoul. Using the new line is expected to save them about 20 minutes in travel time. Combined with road expansion projects in Sangam-dong and Mapo-ku, where the World Cup Stadium is to be built, the opening of the new subway line is likely to attract more pedestrian traffic in nearby areas.
