Starting next year, Korea's financial responsibility for the U.N. annual budget will rise from the previous 1.0% to 1.8%, while its budget responsibility for peacekeeping operations will increase from 0.2% to 1.8%.
The 55th U.N. assembly decided on a new budget allocation scheme for the years 2001 to 2003 that changed the responsibilities of all members.
Accordingly, starting next year, Korea will be responsible for a total of $27 million, up $12 million from last year's $15.23 million (regular budget responsibility is $10.63 million, and PKO is $4.6 million).
