A prosecutor, left, about to investigate the opposition Grand National Party (GNP) on suspicions that the former Agency for National Security Planning, now the National Intelligence Service, poured funds into the then ruling New Korea Party, now the GNP, ahead of the 1996 general elections.

At right is President Kim Dae-Jung's alleged "slush fund" (tear gas bombs) and the "bulletproof National Assembly" (shields), equipment used to quash demonstrations.
