Sunoo said it survey newlyweds after obtaining lists of names provided by wedding halls in the five major cities of Seoul, Pusan, Taegu, Kwangju and Taejon. It also polled couples who got married after meeting their life partners through Sunoo.

The survey showed that couples spent 14 percent of their expenses on household goods, followed by 7.9 percent on the wedding ceremony and 7.4 percent on gifts for family members. They spent 6.4 percent of their total outlay on wedding gifts for each other and 3.5 percent on their honeymoon.

As unnecessary items, 31.8 percent of those surveyed cited gifts for family members and 11.6 percent pointed to wedding gifts for each other. Some 13 percent said that they spent excessively on their wedding ceremony and 9.5 percent on engagement ceremonies.
