The U.S. government may invoke Article 301 of its trade law to open up the Korean automobile market, Democratic Sen. Max Baucus of Montana said Wednesday. At a Senate Financial Committee hearing on international trade and the U.S. economy, Sen. Baucus said the article was instrumental in removing unfair trade practices by the Canadian Wheat Committee and may be invoked soon to open up the Korean car market.
He said the government needs to make aggressive use of the trade law on anti-dumping and countervailing duties to solve trade problems. He also noted that the Canadian government`s assistance to the lumber industry and Japan`s steel and semiconductor dumping are serious problems.
