Universities Will Select 3355 More Students For IT

The prescribed number of the new students for 4 year colleges will increase by 3355 in IT studies in 2002.

By the increased quota up to 5799 new students, the competition will relatively decrease next year.

In addition, the prescribed numbers of the 25 local private schools that meet the requirements of the educational condition will have 19.8 percent increased number (5412) of the freshmen.

The Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development revealed that the total number of the new students next year will be 322,579 people, which is 5799 persons increased from the last year. The increased number is twice than that of year 2001 (2370), continuing the increasing trend of the past few years, increasing 3170 in 2000, 5645 in 1999, and 22,935 in 1998.

Consequently, the competition ratio is expected to be 1.52 vs. 1 next year, which is lower than 1.63 vs. 1 last year. But the competition ratio in the capital area will increase by the reduction of the undergraduate students by major universities in relation to the BK 21 project.

The prescribed number of the national or public universities will be 67,628 decreased by 69 and among them the universities in the capital area reduced 20 students for the next year admission (114,846). Seoul National University reduced its college students quota by 536, followed by 57 of Hanyang University, 56 of Korea University, 55 of Ehwa Womans University, 10 of Sogang University, 7 of Yonsei University, and 5 of Kyung Hee University.

Meanwhile, 12 national and public universities applied for the 5-year education of the architecture related departments following the international standard.
