South Korea Ranked 23rd in National Competitiveness, Japan Placed 21st

In the World Economic Forum (WEF)`s report on the national competitiveness among 75 developed and developing countries, South Korea ranked 23rd this year from 28th in 2000 this year.

The WEF, based in Geneva, Switzerland, has announced the report, produced in partnership with Harvard Business School, on the national competitiveness every year.

According to the report, South Korea ranked in the top ten in higher education, Internet users, school connections to the Internet, savings and investments.

However, South Korea ranked 72nd out of 75 countries in labor-management relations and granting business licenses, ranked 74th in women`s economic activities.

Country-wise, Finland ranked the first, up from fifth last year, followed by the U.S., Canada, Singapore, Australia, Norway, Taiwan, the Netherlands, Sweden and New Zealand. Japan ranked 21st.

The WEF`s report on the national competitiveness will be officially announced in November.
