KT SKT Designated as Market Dominating Enterprises

KT (previously the Korea Telecom Authority) and SK Telecom have been once again designated as the market dominating enterprises in inner-city telephones and mobile phone sectors respectively this year.

The Ministry of Information and Telecommunications (MIT) designated KT and SK Telecomm as such enterprises on May 22 and that usage clauses of the enterprises will remain as an object of permit as it is the case currently. Accordingly, KT and SK Telecomm will be regulated whenever they try to provide usage clauses that may harm the users` interest or the competitive environment of the telecommunications market.

According to an edict on the permit standard of enterprises usage clauses, the telecommunication services divided into PCS and mobile phone will be integrated into `mobile phone`, and the usage clauses permit applicable revenue will increase from the current 3 trillion Won to 3.5 trillion Won.
