Samsung Electronics announced on July 10 of having succeeded in developing the first in the industry graphics D-RAM of the DDR (Double Data Rate)Ⅱ standard.
The product boasts its 128-megabite storage capacity and a data transfer rate of 1GHz that is capable of transmitting 2 billion Korean letters per second. In addition, it provides solutions to 3D graphics and game devices that require high-speed and high-performance memory.
The product also offers such advantages as low energy consumption as its input and output voltage is only 1.8V, and the use of FBGA (Fine-Pitch Ball Grid Array) - a miniature package with minimized chip size that allows the product to be used in notebook PCs and mobile devices.
While aiming at occupying the next-generation graphics D-RAM market at the early stages by developing this product, Samsung Electronics is also expected to bolster the international standardization of DDRⅡ products.
Samsung Electronics plans to start mass-production of its D-RAM products in the third or fourth quarter of this year, as well as increase its current D-RAM market share of about 40 percent to 55 percent by the end of the year.
