High Speed Internet Subscribers Will Exceed 10 Million until the End of the Year

Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) announced on July 19 that there were 9,2100,00 Korea high-speed internet subscribers as of the end of June and so it has maintained the first place in the world. It increased by 430,000 subscribers over 8,780,000 subscribers of the end of March, reached to 64% of nationwide households(Total of 14,500,000 households).

MC forecasted “Until the end of the year, the subscribers will exceed 10,000,000 people, considering this trend”.

KT occupied 47.1% of the total with 4,333,000 subscribers, Hanaro Telecom had 2,426,000 subscribers(26.3%), and Thrunet had 1,302,000 subscribers(14.1%).

For areas of the highest internet subscribers rate, there were Incheon(74.7%), Seoul(65.1%), Gwangju(62.9%), Daegu(62.6%), Ulsan(61.6%), Daejeon(60.4%) and Busan(57.8%) out of 16 Si, Do areas in the whole country in orders.

Different from the big city, the big provincial areas including Gyeongbuk(38.7%), Cungnam(38.2%) and Cheonnam(32.4%) had less 50% subscribers rate. So, there was the big information difference between the city and farming area.
