Penalty Fee For Mobile Phone SPAM Mail

Mobile phone companies must filter the mobile phone Spam mails indicating the certain number such as ‘700’ in advance, if a customer desires. If the Spam Mail doesn’t include an expression of ‘Advertising’ and contact number, the penalty fee must be charged.

The Minister of Information and Communications (MIC) announced on July 29 that it will make the Spam mail blocking measures and execute in orders from August as the damages based on the mobile phone Spam mail have increased.

From the next month, an agent window for a refusal of mobile phone Spam mail will be established and operated in ‘Spam Mail Complaint Service (www.spamcop.or.kr, 1336 without prefix dialing) and ‘Korea Information and Contents Business Association (KIBA- www.kiba.or.kr, ·080-700-3700).

Filtering service which the Spam mail service companies of the certain prefix, such as ‘700’ or ‘800’ block in advance upon the request of subscribers, will be discussed with the said companies to execute in October.

Gim Dae-Hee, the Assistant Manager of Information Protection, MIC said “We will take a sanction measure such as the refusal of information fee payment agent against habitual Spam mail companies”.

According to the Minister of Information and Communications (MIC), there are 3019 civil petitions in relation to the mobile phone character advertisements accepted by ‘Personal Data Protection Center’ and KIBA. Until the end of June, there are 3457 cases in total, and so it shows the tendency of rapid increase.
