90 Foreigners Still in Korea After AG

It is learnt that 90 foreign players who attended Busan Asian games didn’t go back to their nations.

Following Immigration office at Incheon Airport and Busan Asian games committee, among 9,900 players from 44 nations that attended the game, 90 players from 18 nations such as 35 from Mongolia, 15 from Nepal, 5 from China, and 2 from Thailand didn’t go back to their nations. Immigration office, etc think that 60, except 20 reporters and 10 members of OCA, are staying in the country illegally.

A person concerned in Immigration office said, “According to the treaty of Korea and OCA, foreign players can stay in the domestic country till 29th. Therefore, we can’t help thinking that they have intention of staying illegally since they didn’t leave the country spending 13 days from the ending of games without any reason.”

He said, “Especially most of them are from nations from where we have had many illegal immigrants” and “ we will take proper action to grasp illegal immigrants through close investigation and inform it to their nations.”

According to Ministry of Justice, current illegal immigrants in the country by the end of April were 265 thousand from 42 nations, such as 10,339 Chinese, 1,631 Pakistanis, 1,590 Philippines, 893 Bangladeshis, and 678 Mongolians, etc.
