‘Pay attention to the market of digital-combined electronics such as DVD VCR Combo players and camera phones.’

There is a prospect that the market of digital combined electronics that have various digital functions together will rapidly grow this year.

According to the Korea Electronics Industries Institute Tuesday, the demand for the digital combined electronics such as camera phones and combined printers is expected to surge, as the world-wide market of DVD combo players increased to 12 million units this year from 10 million units last year. Accordingly, the local companies such as Samsung Electronics and its LG counterpart are predicted to produce 5 million units of DVD combo players this year, up from 4 million units last year. Moreover, the proportion of combo products among the total of the locally produced DVD players is expected to amount to 38%.

It is also predicted that the demand for camera phones that combined camera with cell phones will surge. The sales for this year will be 12 million units, 25% of the total demand, up from 2.6 million units, 6.5% of the total demand for local mobile phones last year. The sales next year is expect to reach 16 million units, 35% of the total demand.

Also, the institute predicted that the general demand for printers are gradually declining while the combo printers with a scanner and copying machine together will continue to grow. As a result, the market of ink-jet combo printers of which local demand was 200,000 units will rapidly increase to 500,000 units this year. Yoon Dong-hun, director of the institute, said, “In times of digital convergence, the market of combo electronics that combined analog with digital or digital with another digital technology will continue to grow.”
