Cheong Wa Dae began an investigation Friday into whether President Roh’s relatives was asked to be appointed, specifically with regard to the growing controversy over the president’s elder brother, Roh Kun-pyong.

Moon Jae-in, senior presidential secretary for civil affairs, traveled to Gimhae, South Gyeongsang Province, on Friday afternoon, and confirmed that the resume of Roh Kun-pyong was received and looked into the circumstances surrounding the appointment.

The Cheong Wa Dae official decided to investigate whether Roh’s other relatives in Pusan were asked for appointments. If this turns out to be true, an attempt will be made to identify those responsible for the requests.

The presidential office was told that based on the results of the investigation, if in fact the recommendation proves to be a request for special favor, the person would be disadvantaged for promotion or warned if considered trivial.

“Through this investigation, we will completely halt the practice of requesting president’s relatives for appointments and show that such attempts will only be disadvantageous to those responsible,” an official at Cheong Wa Dae said.

Lee Ji-hyun, assistant spokeswoman to the president, said that the president ordered Moon to investigate the circumstances surrounding Roh Kun-pyong’s appointment in a meeting with the chief secretary and presidential aides on Friday morning.
