Korean-language Internet websites ranked second following English sites, after having classified harmful sites such as those with pornography around the world based on user language. This suggests that Korean pornographic websites have increased a great deal on the web.

According to KT on April 27, its Internet filtering service Clean-I monitored a total of 674,926 harmful websites as of April 25. Korean-language sites ranked second, accounting for 64,357, or 9.5%, after English-language sites (564,099). The figure is over four times that of Japanese-language sites which accounted for 15,024, or 2.3%, followed by that of German (1.3%) and French (0.9%) sites.

Clean-I is an Internet filtering service that scours the web at home and abroad around the clock, and collects harmful site information for its database.

When classifying harmful sites into categories, pornographic websites account for an overwhelming 667,667, or 98.9%, followed by gambling sites, which amount to 6,900 (1%).

In particular, harmful Korean-language websites are rapidly increasing. KT said that an average of 268 harmful Korean websites a day were added to the ‘Harmful Website Database’ last month, accounting for 45% of the total new harmful sites.

On Saturdays and Sundays, user attempts to access harmful websites is two times greater than access during the week.

The service charge for the use of Clean-I is 3,000 won per month. To apply for the service, dial 100 (KT Call Center).
