Members of the Baath party, the once-ruling party under Saddam Hussein`s ousted regime, and intelligent officials have formed an anti-American armed organization called the ‘Return’ in Iraq, the Washington Post reported Sunday.
The organization was formed with the aim of driving U.S. forces out of the country, and it is partially responsible for some of the recent attacks on U.S. soldiers, the paper reported quoting the U.S. and Iraqi officials.
The fund comes from wealthy families in Sunni families who pay between $1,000 and $3,000 to members who bring in other candidates. They are against the return of Hussein, but want to establish an autocratic regime again to rule the country.
The Fedayeen paramilitary which consists of Hussein followers, has recently been reorganized and is ready to attack U.S soldiers, a former soldier was quoted in the Fedayeen Kurdish Weekly, the Alah Hally on Saturday.
On this, the New York Times reported that the anti-American group is actively hiring soldiers from Syria, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Algeria who fought for Iraq during the Iraq War.
“You have got Hussein followers west and northeast of Baghdad who are calling buddies in foreign countries to come across the border,” Maj. Gen. William Webster, deputy commander of the allied land command said. “They are also rounding up and distributing weapons.”
Meanwhile, Britain`s Observer newspaper reported Sunday that U.S. forces launched missiles against a number of vehicles Wednesday at Iraq’s border town Kaim in which Hussein or his son may be hiding out.
DNA tests are now being carried out by forensic experts to confirm identification of dead bodies that were collected at the location that was bombed during the war.
