Roh to Visit China Next Month

President Roh Moo-hyun will pay a state visit to China next month from July 7 to 10 to meet with his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao, said Chong Wae Dae Spokesman Yoon Tae-young on June 26.

Roh will have summit talks with Chinese President Hu in Beijing on the first day of his three-day visit.

At the meeting, the two leaders will discuss key issues including North Korea`s nuclear program, follow-up talks to the three-party meeting, stability in North East Asia, economic and human resources exchanges between the countries. The two leaders will announce a joint statement after the talks.

˝The two leaders will reiterate their support for a peaceful solution to the North Korean issue, and President Roh will ask for China`s constructive role in finding such a solution,˝ said Ban Gi-moon, presidential advisor for foreign policies. ˝We expect the summit to serve as an occasion for the two young leaders to build mutual trust.˝

Staying in Beijing, Roh will meet with Chinese political leaders including parliamentary leader Wu Bangguo, and visit Chinghwa University and Hyundai Motor factory. He will also visit Shanghai to meet with business leaders, and look around the prospering Pudong area.

Roh will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Yoon Young-kwan, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy Yoon Jin-shik, Minister of Information and Communication Yoon Dae-je, Environment Minister Han Myung-sook and 11 other government officials and 30 business leaders including LG Group Chairman Gu Bon-moo and Hyundai Motor Chairman Chung Mong-gu.
