Cloudy and Some Rain Today Nationwide

The Chuseok exodus of homebound people began to take place from August 9 in the midst of rain all across the country. On August 10, the first day of consecutive holidays, the traffic is expected to be heavily congested as the weather is forecasted to be cloudy nationwide while some rain is expected in some regions.

A typhoon warning is likely to be issued in Cheju Island and northern regions as the 14th storm Maemi is approaching northward toward Korea.

The typhoon Maemi is becoming more aggressive while it is approaching toward the northwest from about 550km off the coast of Okinawa Island, as of 3 p.m. on August 9, the Korea Meteorological Administration announced.

On August 10, it is expected to be cloudy nationwide. Yeongdong in Gangwon and regions in south of Cheungcheong are expected to have rain and the rain will cease from the northwest. Expected precipitation until August 10 is 20 to 60mm in the central part of Korea and in most regions Gyeongbuk, with exceptions of some regions, which are likely to have over 80mm of rain. Regions in Jeonnam, Gyeongnam, Cheju are expected to have 10~40mm.

On the Chuseok, August 11, it is unlikely to be able to see the full moon as it is expected to be cloudy. A `war of returning to major cities` is likely to take place as the rain is expected to pour down from August l2 until 14 nationwide.

The waves of the ocean are likely to rise from August 12. On August 13 and 14, waves will become 3~5m on the whole sea in South Korea. Thus, travelers who need to travel by ship to return to their cities from their hometown islands are expected to face with difficulties.
