The First Department of Public Security, Seoul branch office of the prosecutors, set forth on October 22 that it has found that Song Do-yul (59), the scholar residing in Germany, had taken the initiatives of holding various North-South unification scholastic meetings in order to spread out the Juche ideology (self-reliance) as a member of political department of the North Korean Labor Party, and carrying out duty of guidance.
The prosecutors further added that Songs visit to North Korea this past March was to receive the Labor Partys order to direct the scholastic meetings.
The prosecution nailed down the duplicated data, which was obtained through the former secretary of North Korea Labor Party, Hwang Jang-yeop, who defected to South Korea, Song and Kim Kyung-pils (the former spy of North Korea Department of Profit, Berlin, Germany) exchange through fax, and the verbal evidence of North Korean defected spy C, and the prosecution decided on Songs identity as a member of the political department of the Labor Party. On the other hand, at the arrest warrant substantial inspection held at Seoul branch office of the prosecutors in the afternoon of this day, the prosecutors egged on Song, Why did you admit your being a member of the political department of the Labor Party to the National Intelligence Service (NIS) but deny it here?
According to this, Song denied his actions to the NIS.
The prosecutors and the lawyer group for Song, attacked and defended Songs activities in the North-South scholastic meetings, held around Beijing, China for six times since 1995.
The prosecutors asserted that Song took part in these meetings in order to carry through North Korean orders such as spreading out Juche ideology and other special commands. But, on the other hand, Songs attorneys opposed the accusation, insisting on it as pure scholastic activities.
