The team investigating the ongoing fund raising scandal revealed on January 20 that it had informed Rep. Shin Kyung-shik of the Grand National Party (GNP) to appear before the prosecution on January 28 right after the lunar New Year holidays.

Shin, the chief of the planning department of the GNP during the 2002 election, is allegedly involved in collecting slush funds from corporations.

The prosecution will also summon Rep. Lee Jae-joung again on January 26 to decide on the level of punishment he faces and the truth of his involvement in the private use of illicit funds.

Lee, who was in charge of stumping for Roh’s campaign team during the presidential election, allegedly delivered one billion won in certificates of deposit (CDs) from Hanhwa Corporation to Rep. Lee Sang-soo of the Uri Party, who was chief of Roh’s camp at the time.

“We will reveal the summons schedule of other politicians who are on the investigation list soon.” said a spokesperson for the prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Dae-a Engineering and Construction Company, Ltd. is now under investigation after prosecutors found clues that it may have given Roh’s camp and the GNP hundreds of millions of won in slush funds.
