With the third round of six-party talks on the North Korean nuclear issue announced to be held in Beijing at the end of June, the Chinese government decided to dispatch special envoys to participating countries for preliminary arrangements concerning schedule and topics for discussion.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Liu Jianchao said on June 5 that Ning Fukui, an ambassador in charge of affairs relating to the Korean Peninsula would visit Russia, U.S., and North Korea, and Cui Tiankai, director-general of the Asian Affairs Department, would visit Korea and Japan soon for negotiations over issues concerning the six-party talks.

“The third round of six-party talks is very important, and success or failure depends on being thoroughly prepared,” said Liu, and added, “The Chinese government expects participating countries to narrow the difference of positions with constructive and flexible attitudes, and to actively search for solutions to the North Korean nuclear issue.”

In regard to the schedule for the third round of six-party talks, China suggested holding it in the forth week of this month, and it was reported that the confirmed schedule will be announced after the return of these special envoys.

Kyodo news of Japan has recently reported that the third round of six-way talks will be held from June 23 to 25 and the second working-level meeting will be held on June 21 and 22.
