As the youth unemployment problem worsens, the competition rate for jobs soared and only one in 779 will likely land a job.
An online employment information site Incruit(www.incruit.com) reported on June 22 that the average competition rate for getting into 63 government affiliated organizations and large corporations, which hired new employees in the first half of this year, was calculated to be one in 60.
Nineteen companies (30.2 percent) had a competition rate of one in 100 while 17 companies (27 percent) had a rate between 1:50 to 1:99. Nine companies (14.3 percent) had a competition rate of 1:10.
Korea Sports Council and Korean Olympic Committee picked six people out of 4,673 applicants, showing a competition rate of 1:779
Competition for Byucksan Engineering and Construction Co. Ltd was 1:500, followed by Nike Korea with 1:300, Dongkuk Steel with 1:260, and LG Caltex with 1:189.
The competition for Government Employees Pension Corporation and Nonghyup was 1:118 and 1:115, respectively.
The highest competition rate last year was 1:728 for a position at Korea Press Foundation.
Lee Gwang-suhk, the representative of Incruit, said, Many jobseekers tried for large corporations and public enterprises where they have relatively secure employment, and added, Looking for an employment in prospective small and mid-size companies can be another good alternative.
