Airport Demonstrations Against Sending Zaitoon to Iraq

One thousand citizens and students affiliated with the “Emergency Action to Prevent Dispatching of Troops to Iraq” (Representative Han Sang-yul) are demonstrating on August 3 at Sungnam City’s Seoul Airport against the dispatching of the Zaitoon unit to Iraq.

Physical altercations between the protestors and police erupted during the demonstrations. The Ministry of Defense also requested that the Zaitoon unit’s dispatching dates, transportation routes, and other valuable information not be announced by the media to discourage such information from falling into the hands of terrorist organizations. Dong-A Ilbo has complied with this request by not announcing any information on the schedule of the unit’s departure.
