The Supreme Public Prosecutors` Office (SPPO) Public Security Department (Chief Prosecutor Kang Chung-shik) said on November 11 that it will issue arrest warrants to 32 members who were involved in the vote over a Korean Government Employees Union (KGEU) strike. Among the 32, 19 are the unions central executive board members, including KGEU Chief Deputy Director Jeon Yong-cheon, and 13 are local general managers, including Seoul General Manager Roh Myoung-woo.
Arrest warrants have been already issued to five executives, including KGEU President Kim Young-gil.
SPPOs Public Security Planning Director Ahn Chang-ho said, We will deal with this issue strictly since the announcement of a general strike by KGEU, as civil servants, is as good as destroying the law.
The prosecution is planning to extend arrest warrants to KGEU directors of local chapters who actively participated in making the decision to stage a walkout, which will add to the number of warrants issued for arrest.
