On January 27, it became known that the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (MPVA) was considering whether to decorate Yeo Woon-hyung, whose pen name is Mongyang, for an independence movement, which has been suspended in suspicion of his leftist leaning.
According to the ministry, the Merit-Judging Commission recently held a meeting to determine whether to confer a decoration on 131 people belonging to socialist groups and the Samil (3/1) Independence Movement of Korea, which includes Yeo.
It is said that the commission concluded in the first meeting that Yeo should be recommended for a decoration.
The MPVA will make a second examination today that its 16 judging members, composed mainly of senior scholars, are supposed to attend in order to further discuss the conferment of a decoration on socialist fighters for national independence, including Yeo.
