A group of North Korean defectors now staying in a third country is planning to enter the U.S. soon to seek asylum. Pastor Cheon Gi-won at the Durihana Mission said, A similar number of North Korean escapees to the previous group of six North Koreans who made it to the U.S. on May 5 will go to the U.S. by the end of this month.
Cheon explained, As we are almost concluding the fine tuning with the U.S. government, they are expected to set foot in the U.S. in several days or by early June at the latest. He added, They will be recognized as refugees and take the same procedure as those who were accepted by the U.S. government before them. He also said, The Bush administration said it could accept up to 200 refugees from North Korea annually, stressing this is not for demonstration effect.
