Tiger Woods is just a step away from taking his 50th PGA Tour victory. Woods took the sole lead of the Buick Open at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc, Michigan, which took place on August 6 after being delayed due to rough weather. In three holes of the second round, and by hitting 6-under in the third round, Woods finished 18 under par with 198 strokes.
He is two strokes ahead of Lucas Glover (USA), Scott Verplank (USA), and Robert Allenby (Australia), who are tied for the second place. Woods has a strong chance of winning the tournament, showing a 100% record of 20-for-20 whenever he is leading by one stroke in the final round. If Woods wins, he will be the youngest to record 50 PGA Tour victories, leaving another milestone, at the age of 30 years, seven months and seven days.
Woods headed off with a shaky start, making bogies in the 16th hole (Par5) of the second round and 2nd hole (Par4) of the third round, but shot past to take the lead after easily grabbing seven birdies with no bogies. Woods especially drew his luck, recording a birdie in the 18th hole (Par4) after his tee shot flew to the left but hit a member of the gallery and bounced back to the fairway. Woods gave that person a golf glove that he signed personally as a present.
Meanwhile, Vijay Singh, who is the three-time defending champion and is aiming for his 4th victory, finished the round tied for fifth place at 15 under par, 201 strokes.
