Jang Jeong (Kiup Bank) once again stumbled on her way to another second place jinx in the LPGA Safeway Classic held at the Columbia-Edgewater Golf and Country Club in Portland, Oregon.
Jang, who was eyeing her second victory of the season, finished the final round with a 2-under-70 for a 9-under-207 by adding three birdies and one bogey. Having been the runner-up at the tournament for the second time, Pat Hurst (U.S., 10-under 206) won the championship one shot ahead of Jang.
Hurst wrapped up her round and was watching Jang putting on the 18th hole. Jangs 4.5m birdie putt for a playoff slid off to the right side of the hole. Jang finished the tournament as a runner-up for the third time as she had lost it to Kang Su-yeon (Samsung Electronics) last year and to Kim Mi-hyeon (KTF) in 2000. Korean female golfers will aim at their first ten combined victories in the next tournament.
Lee Ji-yeong (Hi-mart) and Park Hee-jung (CJ) were fifth with 6-under 210 and Kim Mi-hyeon, Lee Mi-na (KTF), and Kim Cho-rong seventh with 5-under 211.
