U.S. President George W. Bush, who is on a visit to five Latin American countries, arrived in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo via presidential helicopter on March 10 after meeting with Uruguays President Tabare Vasquez. President Bush is visiting Brazil, Uruguay, Guatemala, Paraguay and Mexico from March 8 through March 14 to counter leftist movements there and recover the U.S. influence in the region. He seemed perplexed, however, as fierce anti-American protests continued wherever he visited. At his first destination, Brazil, puppets of President Bush were set afire. Rallies continued in Uruguay, too, and two McDonalds stores were destroyed.
